Attendee Policies

These policies apply to all members, the Host, and any person present in programming space for the duration of the convening.

Scope

These policies are in effect from the opening of registration until the conclusion of closing ceremonies. They apply in all programming space and in the immediate area outside it.

By accepting a membership, members agree to abide by these policies. The Host is responsible for their enforcement.

Expected behaviour

MicroCon is intended to be welcoming to all members regardless of age, race, ethnicity, national origin, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, or religion.

• Treat other members with respect and consideration.
• Ask before touching another member or their costume or property.
• Respect a member’s stated wishes regarding contact, conversation, and photography.
• Follow directions given by the Host during programming.

Unacceptable behaviour

The following will not be tolerated:

• Harassment of any kind, including unwelcome comments related to any characteristic listed above.
• Deliberate intimidation, stalking, or following.
• Unwelcome physical contact or sexual attention.
• Sustained disruption of programming.
• Photography or recording of a member who has declined it.

A member is not required to explain or justify a request to be left alone. “No” is a complete answer.

Badges

Badges are issued at registration and must be worn and visible for the duration of programming. Badges are non-transferable. Lost badges cannot be replaced.

A member without a visible badge may be asked to leave programming space.

Photography

Photography is permitted in programming space, and requires the consent of every member photographed.

Members who do not wish to be photographed are identified by a marker issued on their badge at registration. Members bearing that marker must not be photographed or recorded at any time, including incidentally in the background of another photograph or in the group photograph taken at closing ceremonies.

Photographs taken by the Host may be shown during closing ceremonies and retained in the record.

Alcohol

Where alcohol is served, identification is checked at registration and clearance is marked on the badge. Members without that marking will not be served. Members are asked to drink responsibly and to observe the law.

Reporting

Members who experience or witness a breach of these policies should raise it with the Host, who is present throughout and identifiable at the registration desk.

Reports are taken seriously and handled discreetly. A member who reports a breach will not be asked to confront the other party.

Enforcement

The Host may take any action considered appropriate, including a warning, exclusion from programming, or removal of a membership without refund. A membership removed under this provision is not reissued.

Where conduct may constitute an offence, the Host will assist a member in contacting venue security or local law enforcement.
